Prep & aftercare for all services

This page provides crucial information for before and after your sugaring, facial, and skincare services. Please understand any relevant contraindications (listed at the bottom of this page) before coming in for your scheduled service.

Sugaring hair removal – before & after your appointment

To achieve optimal sugaring results, it is required that you adhere to the sugaring preparation and aftercare instructions and are aware of any contraindications that may affect your eligibility for the service on the day of your appointment.

    • Please allow hair growth for at least 2-3 weeks. Hair should be at least ¼ long –– about the length of long-grain rice. For legs, 3-4 weeks is recommended. The longer the better!

    • IMPORTANT NOTICE: If, at the time of your appointment, your hair has not grown out sufficiently to meet the requirements for the service, regrettably, the appointment will need to be canceled and the full cost of the treatment will be due.

    • On the day of treatment, come in with clean and exfoliated skin and avoid applying any lotions or oil.

    • Caffeine can increase sensitivity before your appointment. If you have sensitive skin, I recommend waiting until after your appointment to have caffeine.

    • You can take ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment to help with pain. Please avoid any blood thinning medications.

    • Sugaring cannot be performed on sunburnt skin, open wounds, rashes, or scabs. You must allow the skin to heal before sugaring can be performed.

    • Absolutely no shaving in-between maintenance appointments, as soon as you shave anywhere you have sugared, you will be back to square one as if you have not sugared.

    • Avoid sweating, tight clothing, pools, and hot tubs for  24 hours following sugaring. This includes working out, hot tubbing, sauna, or intercourse.

    • Exfoliate 3-4x/ week with a soft body brush or exfoliating hand mitt. Wait 24 hours after your sugaring treatment as the sugar will have already exfoliated the existing dead skin. One of the greatest benefits of sugaring is that it does not adhere to live skin.

    • I recommend Fur and PCA products that will soothe, hydrate, and treat the skin as well as prevent ingrown hairs or scarring, along with treating those already existing.

    • Avoid lace underwear or any tight undergarments that can irritate the skin after sugaring. I recommend seamless, moisture-wicking,  panties and going commando at night.

    • If you experience ingrown hairs, you never want to directly exfoliate the zone where the skin is tender, red, or raised. Do not pick or exfoliate over bumps or inflamed skin with gloves or brushes. Avoid picking or squeezing any ingrown that might pop up or exist already.

    • Please contact me and I can have you come in for a post-treatment to help treat any irritation and ingrown hairs and avoid damage to the skin.

    • PLEASE BE AWARE: It is common to experience bumps or minor whiteheads following your initial sugaring session. These effects typically resolve within a few days. To prevent bacterial spread and skin damage, avoid picking. Consistent sugaring maintenance and proper aftercare will help minimize post-sugaring irritation.

    • Never use scrubs or body washes with granules or micro-beads as they will spread bacteria, and cause micro-tears on the skin. You also want to avoid body products with synthetic fragrances as that will promote irritation and rosacea, especially on more sensitive skin types.

Facials & skincare treatment – before & after your appointment

Our priority at July Skincare is to perform safe, effective, and customized treatments for each client. Education is the first step before receiving any facial treatment. We need to ensure your skin is properly prepped and you are provided all information for before and after your service.

For best results and to reduce the risk of complications or contraindications that would prevent you from receiving your facial treatment, please read through this page to understand prep, aftercare, and any contraindications. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions (text is best)!

  • Going on vacation or have a special event coming up? If you are just starting or are new to professional skincare treatments, we recommend waiting until after your vacation to get a facial. Have a special event or wedding coming up? We recommend allowing a few months of facial treatments and home care to have your skin looking its best!

  • For best results and to reduce the risk of complications, it is recommended:

    • Use PCA SKIN® daily care products 10 to 14 days prior to treatment. This will be discussed in your July Skincare skin consultation prior to any facial and chemical peel treatments.

    • If you are lactating, pregnant, or may be pregnant, consult your OB/GYN before receiving any treatment.

    • Do not go to a tanning bed two weeks prior to treatment. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.

    • It is recommended that extended sun exposure be avoided, especially in the 10 days prior to treatment.

    • It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A®, Renova®, Differin®, Tazorac®, Avage®, EpiDuo®, Ziana®, and high-percentage AHA and BHA products prior to treatment or exfoliating products. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.

    • PCASKIN® superficial peels result in little-to-no downtime but create dramatic and visible results. Treatments may cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking, or temporary dryness. Most patients find it unnecessary to apply makeup, as the skin will be smooth, dewy, and radiant following your treatment. If you would like to apply makeup, allow approximately 15 minutes for the pH of the skin to stabilize before applying foundation.

  • Please follow the guidelines below to minimize sensitivities and potential adverse effects following your treatment. It's important to understand that post-treatment purging is a normal part of the skin's detox process –– allowing impurities to surface. To avoid complications like the spread of bacteria or post-inflammatory pigmentation, refrain from picking at blemishes or shedding skin.

As your skin goes through this transition, you'll notice improved clarity and a smoother, radiant complexion. Keep in mind that individual skin types and concerns may vary, but using recommended daily care products and staying consistent with professional treatments will help regulate your skin and the purging process effectively.

    • No cleansing after any facial treatment until the following morning. This allows the skin to reset and absorb all the corrective serums applied during the facial.

    • Make sure to sleep on a clean pillow case to prevent any bacteria from transferring to your clean skin.

    • Avoid sweating, makeup, and extreme temperatures 24-48hrs unless specified by your esthetician.

    • Do not exfoliate, use products that contain active ingredients or retinol for 5 days.

    • Please consult with your provider before any medical, cosmetic, and hair removal services following a facial.

    • Keep your regimen simple by using a gentle cleanser, day and night moisturizer, and sunscreen for the first 5 days before resuming your normal skincare regimen.
